AAFilmLab Historic Feature Film Rough Cut Screening

The Asian American Film Lab is screening a rough cut of our very first feature film this Saturday August 15, 2009 at Anthology Film Archives at 1:30 pm. It took the entire organization nearly a year to write, shoot and produce these films and we’re very proud to share them for the first time with our friends and family. Please come out this Saturday to share this historic and amazing experience with us.

The next Industry Spotlight we will be focusing on preparing and auditioning with monologues with Caroline Thomas, acting teacher/Artistic Director of the Total Theatre Lab on March 17th, 6-9PM.  I had the pleasure of working with Caroline in the past when I had auditioned for HBO’s Bored To Death.  It was for a role I felt didn’t come easily for me, and her coaching got me through 3 callbacks! 

Caroline will work individually with participants on how to conquer a challenging monologue and/or prepare a monologue for auditions, followed by a circle discussion and Q & A session.

To RSVP as a Participant (Only if you can commit to coming on March 17th):
To be an active-participate in this workshop please send your headshot and resume to (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). by March 10th with any questions for the Q&A, and preference for the following choices:

a.) bring in a memorized monologue for coaching.

b.) bring in a new un-memorized monologue that interests or challenges you, that you’d like to try for auditioning.

c.)  working on new materials provided by Caroline. Those choosing this option must submit a brief personal description of themselves along with pic/resume. 

Please put: “CAROLINE MONOLOGUE March 17th” in the subject line. Limited to 15 participants. We will confirm your session with details.

This workshop is open to both active participants and non-participants.

Children of Invention - NYC Screening

CHILDREN OF INVENTION will have its Manhattan premiere as the Centerpiece Presentation of the 32nd Annual Asian American Int’l Film Festival this coming month.  We will be showing Saturday, July 25th at 7:45pm at the beautiful SVA theater in Chelsea (formerly the Chelsea Clearview West theater).  There’ll be a Q&A after the screening.  $15 admission includes the afterparty at 310 lounge.

Chinatown Youth Mentorship Program 2009 - Complete

The AAFilmLab has completed its Chinatown Youth Mentoring Program along with MOCA and APEX. Two of our members were mentors for high school students and had the great pleasure of helping them create their very own film to be included in MOCA's Chinatown Online Film channel on YouTube. The AAFilmLab is incredibly proud to have been part of such an inspiring experience.

MOCA will be opening its doors with an event this July 1st, 2009 showcasing ten short films about Chinatown made by slightly more experienced Directors:
