FAQS for THE SHOOTOUT
Does my team have to be in New York? What about Canada?
The 72 Hour Shootout is open to participants from all over the country, including Canada, eh! In fact, we have received submissions from California, Washington, DC, Texas, Fla and more! - just overnight mini-DV tapes to us and ensure that it is postmarked by June 25th, 2007 at 8PM EST and that it reaches us by Tuesday, June 26th at 10:30 am. Check out the rules for details. This is the first year Canadians will be participating, lets welcome our Asian Brothers and Sisters from the North.
I’m not Asian, but this competition looks cool as hell!
The only requirement is that your film has a person of Asian descent in a Lead Role and that you also have an person of Asian descent in a principal production position (Writer, Producer, Director, Editor, Director of Photography or Editor). If your Asian friend or family member can do both, that satisfies the requirement. So grab your talented Asian buddy or buddies and put together a team!
I’m a triple threat. Can a person of Asian descent fill principal production positions and acting positions at the same time? For example if I write, direct and act will I be eligible to compete?
Yes. As an example, you can be the lead Asian actress as well as the director and the rest of your team Non-Asian.
I’m ready. Where do I get me a team?
Friends are a good start. If your friends’ve already used up their fifteen minutes of fame, then try posting on our message board for cast or crew. Otherwise, Craigslist, Mandy.com, AsianAve.com, etc. be resourceful!

8. All teams must send their submissions, post-marked Monday, June 25, 2007 via mail carrier (USPS, FedEX, DHL, Airborne delivered packages are the only ones that will be accepted) to arrive at the Entry Address, Asian Cinevision (ACV) at 72 Hour Film Shootout c/o ACV and AAFL, 133 West 19th Street, Suite 300, New York, NY 10011 by 10:30 a.m. EDT on Tuesday, June 26, 2007. It is HIGHLY recommended teams use OVERNIGHT carrier. Filmmakers may opt to use non-overnight delivery services to save money, however at their own risk. NO DROP-OFFS (including messenger service) WILL BE ACCEPTED. Only works that are received by the above deadline via official mail carrier will be admitted into the Competition.
Read the official rules and make sure everything is in order. If you have any questions, contact us and we’ll get the answers to you.
I live in the NY Tri-State Area, why can’t I just drop off my submission? It will save me money.
We feel your pain. Having official carriers deliver the films minimizes cheating and gives us a means to ensure all teams, regardless of where they are located in the U.S., equally have 72 Hours to compete.
Can I use SAG Actors? I am a SAG Actor, can I participate?
For now, teams are allowed to use SAG actors, so long as they become a signatory with SAG. We are still in discussions as to which agreement to use. We apologize if you initiated the Short Film Agreement already. We are waiting to hear if they are going to require a stricter TV Agreement instead (would require over $700/day payment to SAG actors), since the top 3 prizes involves a TV screening. We are fighting to have the SFA used instead, which is a much better fit. Stay tuned.
Note: The 72 Hour Shootout Competition will not be collecting Talent Releases or governing your SAG actors/agreements. It is the responsibility of the individual filmmaker to make proper arrangements.
My question isn’t answered here - what should I do?
