Industry Spotlight June 9: Christine Yoo, Filmmaker of “WEDDING PALACE”

The 1st US-Korea Independent Feature Co-Production

Described as the Korean “MY Big Fat Greek Wedding” the story centers on an international online romance fueled by imagination and 24/7 video chats.

Shot in Los Angeles’ Koreatown and Seoul, Korea, WEDDING PALACE stars BRIAN TEE (Co-lead “The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift) and award winning S. Korean actress, KANG HYE-JUNG (“Old Boy” - Cannes Grand Jury Winner). Enlivening the supporting cast are Bobby Lee (Madtv), Stephen Park (Fargo), and Margaret Cho.

The film’s title sponsors are LG Mobile, Korean Air, Hyundai, Jinro/Hite, The Face Shop, Korea Tourism Organization, Seoul Film Commission, RNL Bio and StemGen.

Four years in the making, WEDDING PALACE premiered on April 29 at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific FIlm Festival to a sold out crowd and excellent reviews.

UPDATE:
Recently, this ground-breaking film won the top awards at Cine Gear Expo - the industry’s largest trade show, for Best Feature Film and Best Cinematography. The main criteria for this competition is visual style and excellence in cinematic technique. The film will screen June 2 at Paramount Studios in Hollywood.

The film will make its New York premiere on August 14, as the CLOSING NIGHT PRESENTATION at the Asian American Int’l Film Festival!

Christine Mia Yoo (b. Buffalo, New York) earned a BA in Film Production from the University of Southern California’s School of Cinema-Television. She makes her feature film debut with WEDDING PALACE after working as a professional film & TV writer in Hollywood for nearly a decade. She co-wrote the animation series AFRO SAMURAI starring Samuel L. Jackson for Spike TV and Fuji TV. She also co-wrote HANNIBAL for Vin Diesel and BET network. Her original screenplay, the romantic comedy, FOR STEPPERS ONLY was optioned and developed by Lionsgate.

Asian American International Film Festival! In its 34th year, the AAIFF
continues its mission of promoting and presenting works by artists of Asian
descent of all nationalities.

We are now accepting works produced, directed, or written by artists of
Asian descent of any nationality, or about the Asian community for the
following categories: short films, feature films, youth-produced/directed
films, music videos, and works-in-progress.
